Moving to Bangkok now, after Lisbon and Berlin, another adventure awaits.
“Coimbra tem mais encanto na hora da despedida”
Famous words from a great Portuguese Fado “Balada da Despedida” (the goodbye hour), I would replace “Coimbra”, a beautiful city also, by my own “Lisboa”.
It’s been almost two years since we’ve been in Berlin already, when we were saying goodbye, for sure, Lisbon was at her most beautiful peak of beauty and perfection as we were already looking to Berlin, to a better life quality, to new adventures.
Two years passed, and now we’re moving to Bangkok! What started out as a simple joke in the form of: “This weather is getting into us, we should move to Thailand” quickly became our reality!
I will admit, I had some pretty high expectations for Berlin; we’ve grown up watching these rebellious movies and documentaries about how such many brave people re-conquered their city by literally breaking down a gigantic wall! Truth to be said, that was indeed a truly beautiful brave moment for Berliners and Germany.
But as with all expectations, they tend to fall. Berlin is now a beautiful city for sure, but long are the days of cultural breakages, revolution and artistic breakthrough movements and ideals. Berlin has became a gentrified city, more and more, little by little, each one of those so iconic neighbourhoods are getting refactored into a brand new paradise of living for families of medium to high income. And that’s all great, but not for me.
Add to this the darkness of the weather in winter times in Berlin which can really make you feel isolated and actually ill (Portuguese speaking here), then one starts to wonder the whys of staying in Berlin.
And so we’ve decided to leave Berlin and are now moving to Bangkok to a new living, to a new job, to a new life, to a new adventure.
We’ll be looking for something more real, for some sun and beaches, for some good food; for some chaos also!
We really need to get clean from wurst and potatoes! We did try it in Berlin with a quick warmup for Thai food.
Next stop, Bangkok!
